Colored pencil refers to a type of drawing pencil made with colored pigments instead of graphite. This kind of pencil is manufactured in the same way as LEAD PENCIL, that is, the pigment is mixed with the clay binder. There are many brands of colored pencils to choose from, and the colors supplied are also very wide. However, because some brands indicate the ingredients contained in the paint, most of these ingredients are not recognized by the painter, so colored pencils are generally not recommended for artistic purposes. (Some manufacturers use pigments that do not fade when exposed to light, and advertise that their pigments do not fade.) There are also some special varieties that can be used, such as colored pencils made of water-soluble pigments. They are used in the same way as ordinary colored pencils, but the markers can be smeared with a wet watercolor pen to create a rendering effect. Because this kind of pencil contains soluble pigments, it is not suitable for drawing durable works.
